Club 38 in West Chicago is looking to line their DJ Lineup for the month of March with DJ’s who are willing to play for free, suckers can apply at the e-mail address listed below. After my previous blog post, Kalee, the bartender wanted to call me and clear the air. Here’s what you didn’t hear….
Listen as the Talent Buyer (read bartender) tried to explain a DJ contest where they dont want an “urban” following, and have selectively already denied “urban” DJ’s that play “urban” music or have “urban” followings…
This is Kalee here! :-)
Please contact us with any questions you may have regarding this matter. We would be more than happy to discuss the details with you!
Personally, thank you DJ Meltdown for further advertising and promoting our club! I appreciate all your hard work and dedication!
You can contact Club 38, located in the suburb of West Chicago at 243 West Roosevelt Road, West Chicago, IL 60185. Come visit us this weekend, Friday and Saturday from 9pm to 2:30am and make your own opinion! Friday night is “Dance Your Ass Off Fridays”!Check out our DJ Idol contest and Dance Factory’s Live Broadcast!!! Come vote for your favorite DJ and see who makes it to the final round!!! Come witness “38 Shots In 38 Seconds”– aka FREE SHOTS! Poured by yours truly! ;-) xoxo!
I guess you’re welcome. Free Shots? It’s no wonder you can’t afford to pay a DJ, what kind of business model is that? Hell, if I wanted to hang with the racists and listen to free music, I’d come drink your liquor too.
Thanks after listening to this I was planning on attending with a group of friends but after hearing this conversation. I won’t be going or promoting anyone else to go. I got the message loud and clear.
I live in the neighborhood and have a lot of clients looking for somewhere to go and Club38 wont be it . Whoever hired this girl should fire her or Be real and let it be known to keep your black a** out of there.
Racists? Really? Ive gone to Club38 quite a few times with my guys and we’ve never had a problem being black. Theres always black people in the club. What you all dont know is that one of the bartenders is black, the friday resident dj is Mexican and the gm is Asian. So how is this even a race issue? Urban. What do you think about when you hear that word? City? SUB-urban. SUBurban is a demographic that someone/some place may be trying to target. Have you ever thought of that? Obviously not. I have always had a great time at this club. The bartenders are bomb, the drink are fire and the crowd is even better. I’d rather not go to a club that ghetto and has trash in it. Yea I can say this because IM BLACK, AFRICAN AMERICAN. The only person making this a race issue is you buddy. And trash includes, any and every race, we all have them. You are also white, so why do you care so much?
I’m not going to release your e-mail address publicly because that wouldn’t be prudent, but I am going to call you out on being an employee of the club. I’m happy for you that you have employees of other races, that doesn’t preclude you from any further racial profiling. Nobody uses the term “urban”, then precedes the statement with “fights, cops, and injured bartenders”, and isn’t being stereotypical.
So let’s assume you were talking about Urban(city) vs. Suburban(rural). You mean to tell me that the club has specific demographic information that shows that people within the city limits are more prone to violence in a nightclub environment? How do you know where these people are from? Are you collecting addresses at the door, or are they wearing their address on the front of their shirt?
In closing, of course nobody is wearing their address on their shirt, but they do wear their race everyday as the color of their skin, and thats what stereotypical statements are born from. As an employee, I’m glad you had a good time at Club 38, and that none of your friends have been discriminated against, however that wasn’t the case in this situation. Just because I’m white doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t have everybody’s best interest in mind. Nobody deserves to be discriminated against or profiled, especially while seeking employment, or just out trying to have a good time.
Yay this looks fun :)
Club 38 has come so far from where it started. This club lets in all races and like clubs in the city can deny anyone at the door. Now you go to the city some clubs dont let gym shoes or baggy shirts or ripped jeans in are you going to hate on them?? NO… Now when somebody goes on a stage and throws up a gang sign do you think they are gonna let them stay in the club NOOO…Every club has promotions Fox n Hound has 2 dollar beer on tuesday Shark city 1 dollar drink thursdays now if a club does 38 seconds of free shots does that make them cheap NOoo its their promo. When you go to mullens you think their dj is paid a lot no THEY cant afford it..So to be posting this just about ONE club bc they hurt your feelings is wrong. Ive been to a lot of bars n clubs and no offense who are you?? You wanna try and make a name for yourself than dont bash on other places..You wanna be a leader and a respected Dj than SUCK IT UP IF SOMEONE PISSES YOU off.. Its called the industry try and overcome being a rude stuck up prick…because when you want your music to travel the country to miami/LA you think they care about your sob story and you bashing on other clubs no HUn and i know this because i worked with PRetty boys promo group for 2 yrs in LA they dont want lil bloggin boys running their music in the club they want someone who is ready to do what they love for whatever price and wherever :)
IN CLOSING….
Get over yourself and think whats really important to you! Making good music or creating haters??? Cause i work in the industry and have done jobs at bars that i would never return to and i have heard the worst dj’s ever but would i blog it No! Because its what i felt and wasnt important to me to make myself look mean :) mauh hope you have a good weekend toodles!
hahahahahahhahahahaa why did my message get deleted BECAUSE I WA RIGHT YA
actually it got flagged as spam….
so dont u think im a tad right about the arguement
Your argument might have some validity if it wasn’t written like a 13 year old school girl who failed English class, so I won’t even address your time in the “industry”.
But to address your points…Yes, every club has the right to refuse patrons at the door, but you don’t come out an openly admit it. I’m not pissed off at Club 38, I could really give a shit less, but I’m fighting for the attempt of any DJ to get a gig. The fact that the winning DJ might be paid less, or offered a different contract based on the crowd he/she draws, or the color of their skin is just ridiculous. By openly admitting it, Club 38 is no better than Mothers…they should learn from that, not embrace it.
Let me get this straight…. you admit other clubs do it, but because I was straight with you and said it out loud, you feel the urge to cause all this drama and “protect people”? We wont let a white guy in with baggy jeans and an attitude. Color has nothing to do with it. I’m extremely proud of how our security runs the door. They let a certain “attitude” in. Not a look. I’ve worked at bars and clubs where security was told “no black people”. But you’ve never been to 38. You classically judged a book by its cover…. all because I was honest. Because I had the balls to say it out loud.
I never said we wouldn’t hire a black DJ. I said we would hire the DJ who best fit the club and would best fit the direction we’re moving. At every job, you get paid based on skill and qualifications. Those less qualified make less. I also said we would take away more than one DJ from this contest. I also told you we were looking for a DJ with a following… your friends to come check you out. Our guest DJ’s have done an amazing job, coming out, spinning, and having fun with their friends. That’s all I asked… remember…???
Instead of appreciating my honesty, my direct straight-forward answers… not to mention the time I took because I honestly cared that you felt slighted, you bashed me. Shame on me for being a considerate, honest, and a concerned bartender/promotions manager??? Or shame on you for being a disgruntled, disrespectful DJ who decided to twist my words and throw me on blast??? Either way it’s not for us to decide. As I said in our phone conversation, “it’s just not for you”.
